How to Make a WhatsApp Sticker Pack: 512 px WebP, 100 KB, Tray Icon

WhatsApp stickers are strict about format and forgiving about content. Every sticker is a 512 by 512 WebP with a transparent background, static ones under 100 KB and animated ones under 500 KB, and they travel in packs of three to thirty with a 96 pixel tray icon. Get those numbers right and any image can be a sticker; get them wrong and the pack will not import.
The rules
- •Sticker: exactly 512 by 512 pixels, WebP, transparent background.
- •Static stickers under 100 KB; animated stickers under 500 KB, up to 10 seconds, frames of at least 8 ms.
- •Tray icon: 96 by 96 pixels, under 50 KB, PNG or WebP.
- •Pack: between 3 and 30 stickers, with a name and an author.
Getting a 512 px WebP
Every emoji page on this site has a sticker download: a 512 by 512 WebP with the transparent background kept and the subject padded into the square, never cropped. The export is encoded to stay under WhatsApp's 100 KB cap (measured 26 to 74 KB on real emoji, and the encoder steps the quality down if one runs large), so the size rule takes care of itself.

Turning files into a pack
WhatsApp itself does not have a 'create pack' screen on every platform, so packs are usually assembled with a sticker maker app that imports the WebP files and sends the pack to WhatsApp. On iPhone and Android the mainstream sticker maker apps accept 512 pixel WebP files directly; pick one, add your files, set the name and tray icon, and tap add to WhatsApp.

- •Keep a transparent background. A white square around a sticker is the most common look of a first attempt.

Why does WhatsApp reject my sticker?
Almost always one of three: it is not exactly 512 by 512, it is a PNG rather than WebP, or a static sticker is over 100 KB. The sticker download on each emoji page meets all three.
Can I make an animated WhatsApp sticker from an animated emoji?
WhatsApp accepts animated WebP under 500 KB at 512 pixels. The site's animated emoji are 128 pixel loops, which is the wrong size for a sticker, so the sticker download is offered for still emoji only.
How many stickers do I need for a pack?
At least three and at most thirty, plus a tray icon. Three good ones beat thirty filler ones; you can add to a pack later.
