How to Make a Telegram Sticker Pack With the Stickers Bot

Telegram's sticker rules and the @Stickers bot flow: 512 pixel PNG or WebP with one side exactly 512, under 512 KB, transparent background, and how custom emoji differ.

4 min read

Telegram stickers are created through a bot, not a settings screen, and the rules are short: a PNG or WebP with one side exactly 512 pixels, the other 512 or less, a transparent background, and under 512 KB. Anyone can publish a pack and anyone can use it, which is the opposite of Telegram's custom emoji, which need Premium.

The rules

  • PNG or WebP, transparent background.
  • One side exactly 512 pixels; the other side 512 or smaller. A 512 by 512 square satisfies both.
  • Under 512 KB per sticker.
  • Each sticker is tied to one standard emoji, which is how Telegram suggests it while you type.

Making the pack

  1. 1Get your images as 512 pixel PNG or WebP files with transparent backgrounds. Each emoji page on this site offers a 512 by 512 sticker download that meets the rule.
  2. 2Open a chat with @Stickers in Telegram and send /newpack.
  3. 3Send a name for the pack, then upload the first image as a file, not as a photo, so it is not compressed.
  4. 4Reply with the standard emoji that matches the sticker, then repeat for each image.
  5. 5Send /publish, pick a short link for the pack, and share the link. Anyone who opens it can add the pack.

Stickers versus Telegram custom emoji

Telegram also has custom emoji, which appear inline in text like the standard set. Those are a different format, WebM or TGS at 100 pixels, and only Telegram Premium subscribers can use them. For most groups, a sticker pack is the practical choice: free for everyone and made from ordinary images.

Animated stickers

Animated and video stickers use TGS or WebM at 512 pixels, not GIF, and have their own length and size limits. The site's animated loops are GIFs at 128 pixels, so they are not sticker material yet; still emoji are.

FAQ

Why does the Stickers bot say my file is the wrong size?

One side has to be exactly 512 pixels. A 500 by 500 image is refused, and so is a 600 by 600 one. Use the 512 sticker download, or resize so the longer side is exactly 512.

Do people need Telegram Premium to use my sticker pack?

No. Sticker packs are free for every user. Premium is only needed for custom emoji, which are a separate feature.

Should I upload as a photo or as a file?

As a file. Sending it as a photo compresses it and strips transparency, and the bot will reject it or the sticker will have a white background.
